Nose Piercing

The nose piercing is the process of piercing any part of the nose to wear certain types of jewelry. There are mainly three types of nose piercing. They are the nostril piercing, nasal septum piercing and the bridge piercing. Among these three the nostril piercing is the widely used one.

The nostril piercing is very commonly found in India. The nose piercing is considered as a sign of beauty as well as an honor to Parvathy, the Goddess of marriage. In nostril piercing the right or the left nostril is pierced to put the jewelry in. The nostril piercing is also widely found in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Middle East. Currently, the nostril piercing is becoming popular in the U.S, U.K, Australia, Canada and Europe. Irrespective of gender, the people are using nostril piercing here.

Nasal septum piercing is another form of nose piercing. Here, the nasal septum that divides the wall between the two nostrils is pierced. The nose consists of many small nervous systems running around and the nose piercing is therefore a painful process. The piercing takes around one to three months to heal up and this may vary from person to person. The nasal septum piercing is not very common as it is very painful compared to the nostril piercing process. Another type of nose piercing is the bridge piercing. The piercing is done on the top portion of the nose, where a small portion of the skin is pierced. The most commonly used jewelry in bridge piercing is the curved and straight barbells. However, some individuals use seamless ring also. This is not a safe mode of piercing as it is complicated and requires major care.
